Master of Art Education
The Master of Art Education (MAE) was designed for K-12 certified art teachers to continue their education and fulfill the requirements for maintaining their teaching certification. The MAE is a studio intensive degree that allows the graduate student to develop an area of artistic expertise in one of four areas of study or explore a variety of these art mediums and techniques. The four areas of study are Painting, Drawing, Photography, and Printmaking. The students will also develop their critical and analytical skills as they complete their professional education courses. These courses will examine and analyze progressive approaches to teaching the visual arts, explore various ways technology enhances the classroom, critically analyze current classroom pedagogy and revise curriculum to reflect the best practice. The program culminates in a capstone course in which students will complete a thesis project or research paper. It is the goal of the program to enrich, challenge, and energize the artist/teacher. And by doing so, create an intelligent individual capable of critical thinking and reflection who can mentor and inspire the next generation of artists.
