Priority Deadlines

In order to receive priority consideration for graduate fellowships, graduate assistantships, or scholarships, applicants to MAE, MArch and MFA programs must apply and submit all required application materials by the following priority application deadlines:

  • Fall semesters -- February 1st
  • Spring semesters -- October 15th
  • KCAD encourages outstanding candidates to apply at all times. KCAD will accept and consider applications after the priority deadlines; however, applicants may not receive consideration for graduate fellowships, graduate assistantships, or scholarships after priority deadline dates.

    Master of Architecture

    For admissions consideration to the MArch program, applicants should complete the following:

    • Click here to apply online or complete a paper application.
    • Official Transcripts from all institutions of higher education (unofficial transcripts will be considered for provisional admission, pending receipt of official transcript). Official transcripts must be sent directly to the College by the institution.
    • 500-700 word Statement of Purpose. What is your interest in architecture? Why are you applying to this program? What unique qualities or perspective do you bring?
    • Resume.
    • Three letters of recommendation. Letters must be sent directly from the reference to the College via email or mailed.

      Letters of reference are not required for current FSU and KCAD students. However, current students must provide a list of three references with contact information.
    • Portfolio to be submitted as a single PDF not to exceed 30 pages and 50MB. Slides, CDs, URLs, and hard copy materials will not be accepted. All portfolios must have a cover page as the first page with the following information: first and last name, street address, city, state, postal code, country, email address, and telephone number. Portfolio images/files must be formatted together in one Adobe PDF and titled in the following manner: last name, first name, portfolio, _2yr OR _3yr, depending on your desired placement in the program (example for an applicant to the 2-year MArch: smith_carolyn_portfolio_2yr.pdf). Your portfolio will not be reviewed if you upload individual images.

      Please submit your portfolio electronically via Box . Set up your own Box account (free), and upload the file to it; then submit your work by having Box share the file with kcadmarch@ferris.edu. In order to assure that the program received your file, please send an email to kcadmarch@ferris.edu, stating that your portfolio has been submitted.

      You may also submit your Statement of Purpose, Resume, and (for KCAD and FSU Students) your reference list along with your portfolio electronically via Box. If you choose this method, please upload all documents to Box before inviting KCAD.
    • An interview with KCAD is required as part of the admission decision process. Upon receipt of your complete application, KCAD will contact you to schedule an interview.

    Master of Art Education

    For admissions consideration to the MAE program, applicants should complete the following:

    • Click here to apply online or complete a paper above.
    • Official transcripts from all institutions of higher education.
    • Letter of intent outlining proposed artistic goals.
    • Curriculum vitae.
    • Portfolio of your work in chosen area of emphasis as well as your student's work (labeled with title, size and media). Portfolio may be submitted as a CD of digital images (JPEG format). Please include 10 images of your own work and 10 of your student's work.
    • Three letters of recommendation from professionals in your field (sent directly to Kendall).
    • Please also note, an application fee is only applicable to International Student applicants.

    Master of Fine Arts

    For admissions consideration to the MFA program, applicants should complete the following:

    • Click here to apply online or complete a paper above.
    • Official transcripts from all institutions of higher education.
    • Letter of intent outlining proposed artistic goals.
    • Concise artist statement that addresses the philosophical foundation of your work.
    • Curriculum vitae.
    • Portfolio of work: 20 images in chosen area of emphasis. Images must be submitted digitally via CD or Flash Drive (JPEG format), and should not exceed a resolution of 640 x 480. Each image must be labeled with title, size, medium and year.
    • Three letters of recommendation from professionals in your field (sent directly to Kendall).
    • Please also note, an application fee is only applicable to International Student applicants.

    Master of Arts: Visual and Critical Studies

    For admissions consideration to the MVCS program, applicants should complete the following:

    • Complete the paper application above.
    • Three letters of recommendation (if applying to either the MFA or MArch and the MA program concurrently, the same letters may be utilized for both folders)
    • Curriculum Vitae
    • Transcripts
    • Minimum degree requirements: BA/BS/BFA
    • Letter of intent: 200-350 word count letter describing what you hope to bring to the program. What are your goals and how do you believe this program will contribute towards those goals?
    • Writing sample: applicants must submit a 1000-1200 word count writing sample. Appropriate formats include essay, research paper, or criticism.

    Advanced Studies Certificate in Design and Innovation Management

    The Advanced Studies Certificate in Design and Innovation Management is a 12-credit certificate that can stand alone or be applied towards an MBA through Ferris State University.
