Have a good attitude and be a go-getter. Your portfolio is less important just coming out of school than your drive. Tailor your book to the job you're applying for. If they are a T-shirt design company, throw in a T-shirt design.

List three ways you network in your field.

  1. I make friends and stay in contact with them through Facebook, LinkedIn or e-mail. I check in with old contacts now and then to see how they are doing.
  2. It's always good to meet with people outside of work.
  3. I also attend award shows.

What was the worst interview moment you've experienced?

I applied for a job just out of school, and the owner wasn't clear on my experiences; I don't think he read my résumé. It was for a job designing movie posters. He was upset I didn't have any movie posters in my book. Closed it and handed it back to me. He told me I wasted his time. That's Hollywood for ya.
