The David Wolcott Kendall Memorial School Foundation
Foundation Overview:
Kendall College was formed in 1928 from the generous donation of Helen Miller Kendall, wife of David Wolcott Kendall. Kendall operated as a private institution from 1928 until late 1995 when the decision was made to merge with Ferris State University.
Kendall transferred its existing quasi-endowment and endowment funds to a new foundation organized to support the College’s mission. Therefore, the David Wolcott Kendall Memorial School Foundation was organized in August of 1996 as a publicly supported foundation, exempt under the section 501(a) of the Internal Revenue Code as described n section 501(c).
The David Wolcott Kendall Memorial School Foundation mission is to generate and receive contributions of property of any kind, both real and personal, and to administer such a property exclusively for charitable, scientific, literary, or educational purposes by making contributions and providing financial support to Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University.

GIVE TO THE 2007 KENDALL ANNUAL CAMPAIGN
Since Kendall merged with Ferris State University, the growth of enrollment at Kendall has been remarkable. Beginning with 520 students ten years ago, Kendall this fall enrolled more than double that number: 1180 students.
We have also experienced significant growth in degree programs, adding courses in photography, painting, digital media, sculpture and functional art, art education, and metals/jewelry design, as well as a Master of Fine Arts and Master of Art Education. Further, the College has collaborated with Ferris’s College of Business to develop a core of courses in design and innovation management that are part of the University’s MBA program.
In keeping with increased enrollment and class offerings, Kendall has also awarded over $1.4 million in institutional scholarhships this year.
Unfortunately it is a common misperception that since Kendall’s merger with Ferris, Kendall receives funding from the state of Michigan. The fact is, Kendall receives no state funding through its affiliation with Ferris. Therefore, on one hand, Kendall has not had to raise tuition to compensate for a loss of funding. But on the other, no support from the state makes Kendall much more financially dependent on those who believe in our mission.
Whether you graduated from Kendall 20 years ago, 10 years ago, or just last year, We urge you to support Kendall with a donation to the David Wolcott Kendall Memorial School Foundation. This year, we’re working to raise $90,000, which will continue to build the student scholarship fund and guarantee that scholarship recipients will have the same opportunities and benefits of the Kendall experience you had, and receive the education that will help them become leaders in the world of art and design.
