Focus on KCAD | Collections

Opening Reception: February 20, 5-7pm

We are what we collect. Each keeper has their own motivations for their collection, but they do share a common thread. Each has moved beyond amassing souvenirs that authenticate experiences, and instead, create a hermetic world unto its own. While many objects make up a collection, their individual narratives take a back seat to the larger context that is created when they combine into a single whole. Collections move beyond a rare find, nostalgic memento or a simple object of pleasure, and employ elements of organization and arrangement to document its history and meaning.

Collections become an extension of the collector’s vision and identity. They serve as social connectors, question our notions of value, create order from perceived chaos, and provide a richness that is immaterial. Get to know the faces of our KCAD community through the objects and possessions they hold dear, while exploring the art and the act of collecting.
