Canoe Winner Announced

Posted September 3, 2010 in PublicPublic

The beautiful 16-foot canoe created by the Sculpture and Functional Art program students raised $2,210, and went to a great home.

Russ Ambrose was the winner of the floating work of art. His wife, Lisa, an Illustration major purchased 10 of the 541 tickets sold, but didn‚??t tell Russ about the purchase. ‚??I guess she wanted to surprise me, but I know that she felt it was also important to raise money for the program,‚?Ě he said.

‚??I appreciate it because I plan on using it. But I do some woodworking as well, and I understand the amount of time, effort, and skill it took to create it. It‚??s an amazing canoe as well as a work of art,‚?Ě said Ambrose.

After Ambrose puts a coat of marine wax on the canoe, he‚??s hoping to take it on a fall camping trip, perhaps to the Land Between the Lakes in Western Kentucky. And over the winter, he‚??s hoping to spend time in his own woodworking shop crafting some matching paddles.
