Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) alumnus Evan Fay (’14, Furniture Design) may still be in the early stages of his career, but his design work is already turning heads in all of the right places.

FashionTimes.com Design Editor Megan Busacca recently listed Fay’s “Lawless Chair” design as one of her 28 Most Memorable Designs at NYCxDesign. Held in New York City, the third annual international event showcased people, processes, ideas, and objects that are at the forefront of design over ten days of exhibitions, installations, trade shows, lectures, launches, and open studios.

Fay, who earlier this year earned an MFA in 3D Design from Cranbrook Academy of Art, creates furniture designs from an arts-centered perspective, giving each piece a unique look and providing powerful commentary on social and cultural circumstances through everyday objects. He says he is especially interested in pursuing furniture designs that also function as sculpture.
“The Furniture Design program at KCAD was really the beginning of my quest to make objects that blur the boundaries between design, art, and craft. Being a design student gave me a vocabulary and a skill set that allowed me to develop my interests and intentions further in order to deliberately challenge markets and break rules in pursuit of originality.”
