News Bites: Graphic Design Students Create New Symbol For Meijer Summer Games
The 2014 Meijer State Games of Michigan Summer Games is set to begin on June 20, and thanks to a group of KCAD Graphic Design students, this year’s games will feature a new symbol in addition to several new events.
Professor John Koziatek assembled the team – Abby Kiekover, Anthony Murphy, Chelsea Nutt, Josephine Uhila, Kylie Bergstrom (team lead), and Laura Shaler – after State Games officials requested KCAD’s assistance in creating a symbol that epitomized the spirit of the event. Since the event appeals to all Michigan residents, the student design team represented a variety of Michigan cities. Each team member that Koziatek selected was also a former and/or current athlete and/or coach.

The team provided a variety of symbol angles, color modes, resolutions, and file types in order to virtually accommodate any type of need, application, and media. The symbol, which will be used for promotional purposes throughout the state on t-shirts, bumper stickers, and other materials, is a representation of the torch that will be carried through Traverse City, Flint, Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Lansing.
