News Bites: KCAD Professor Has Short Story Published in Glimmer Train
KCAD professor Adam Schuitema recently had his short story “All of Your Vanished Men” published in the Spring-Summer 2014 issue of Glimmer Train, a Portland-based literary magazine considered one of the top in the nation.
Schuitema, who received his MFA and Ph.D from Western Michigan University, teaches a variety of humanities courses at KCAD, including Creative Writing, Fiction Workshop, Visual Rhetoric, and other courses on modern literature.
This is his second inclusion in Glimmer Train, which has published writers who have been represented in recent editions of The Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses, New Stories from the Midwest, The PEN/O. Henry Prize Stories, New Stories from the South, Best of the West, and Best American Short Stories. He’s also been published in North American Review, Indiana Review, TriQuarterly, Black Warrior Review, and Crazyhorse, among others.
In 2010, Schuitema published his first short story collection, Fresh Water Boys, to widespread critical acclaim, earning a Michigan Notable Book Award from the Library of Michigan.
Currently, he’s shopping the manuscript for his first novel, entitled Haymaker, around to various publishers. “All of Your Vanished Men” will be the opening piece in a new collection of short stories that Schuitema hopes to finish later this year.
