News Bites: Pair of Digital Media Alums Take Next Step in Their Careers

Posted June 6, 2014 in News BitesDigital Media

Digital Media alums Jake McVey (’14) and Steve Heneveld (’06) have both recently taken an exciting step forward in their respective careers.

McVey, who just graduated this past May, has been hired as a Web Designer by VML, formerly known as Biggs|Gilmore, a Kalamazoo-based advertising agency that was one of the first in the industry to transition from print to interactive and digital media. After winning numerous awards for its work with clients like Kellogg’s, Heinz, and Kimberly Clark, Biggs|Gilmore merged with the larger full-service digital advertising agency VML in late 2013. Of VML’s 1800 employees, 13 are KCAD alumni who came with Biggs|Gilmore and now work in VML’s creative department in Kalamazoo. McVey will be the 14th KCAD alum to work for the agency.

Heneveld had been working as a Storyboard Artist for Dreamworks Animation since December of 2013, and has now been promoted by the company to a new role as an Art Director. Prior to coming to Dreamworks, he worked as a Storyboard Artist for Nickelodeon and Walt Disney Animation Studios.

Back in March, Heneveld shared some excellent advice on navigating the post-graduation landscape on the KCAD blog. Check it out here.
