North Carolina Alumnus Offers Plein Air Workshops

En plein air is a French expression which means "in the open air" and is used to describe the act of painting outdoors. Kendall alumnus and North Carolina artist Richard Oversmith is leading two plein air workshops in his home state. Oversmith studied fine art and illustration before graduating from Kendall College with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1995. While at Kendall, he was invited to study at the Royal College of Art in London, where he gained experience in plein air painting and found direction in his work as an oil painter. He then moved back to his home state of North Carolina to fulfill his dream of becoming a professional artist. ‚?® The first workshop will be at The Art Cellar Gallery in Banner Elk, NC on August 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Oversmith will also lead a three-day plein air workshop, ‚??The Biltmore Estate in Autumn,‚?Ě in Asheville, NC, October 7 ‚?? 9.
