Persistence Pays: Sketches Earn Illustration Alum Chance to Work with Comic Book Elite

Posted May 31, 2017 in AlumniIllustration

In the world of comic book illustration, desire only takes you so far. If you want to work with the best, you have to do something to grab their attention, and that’s exactly what Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) alumnus Jim Towe (’15, BFA Illustration) has done.

After self-releasing sketches of modernized characters from Youngblood, a series created in 1992 by prominent comic illustrator Rob Liefield, Towe caught Liefield’s eye. The elder illustrator, responsible for popular Marvel Comics antiheroes Deadpool and Cable, was so impressed that he offered Towe and opportunity to help him launch a new Youngblood series.

With the release of the first issue of the new series in May of 2017, it’s clear that Towe has taken his career to the next level. Read more about his journey in this article from Clinton Township, Mich.-based newspaper The Daily Tribune.
