Kendall announced that it has awarded eight Portfolio Scholarships to students who participated in the Kendall Portfolio Event hosted by the Crooked Tree Art Center in Petoskey, MI on April 21, 2012.  In conjunction with the Crooked Tree Art Center’s Annual Youth Exhibition, Kendall representatives were on hand to critique art and design portfolios of undergraduate art and design students, hailing from the counties of Charlevoix and Emmet. Paul Varga, Kendall’s Dual Enrollment instructor and Michigan artist, reviewed the work of many budding student artists. Varga stated, “Every year, the work of these young artists and designers is truly remarkable – there is so much talent in our region of the state.” As a result, Kendall has awarded over $100,000 to eight students, representing the Michigan cities of Bellaire, Boyne City, Charlevoix, East Jordan and Petoskey.

Congratulations to the following youth artists and designers: Eowyn Bates, Meredith Hague, Sarah Hitsman, Macie Olstrom, Deborah Rob, Lauren Robert, McKenna Steltzner, and Monica Stokes.

Several of these students have participated in Kendall’s Dual Enrollment program, which allows high school juniors and seniors to take Kendall classes for college credit. Kendall currently offers dual enrollment courses to 235 students at more than twenty-five locations throughout the state of Michigan. For Emmet and Charlevoix counties the Kendall Dual Enrollment program is housed at the Crooked Tree Art Center with Paul Varga as the class instructor. Sandra Britton, Kendall’s Director of Enrollment Management, stated, “The Kendall Dual Enrollment program is an exceptional opportunity for high school students – and it is a privilege for Kendall to be connected with the Crooked Tree Art Center."

Kendall is currently recruiting students for the Fall 2012 program. Anyone who is interested in applying for a Dual Enrollment class or has questions regarding this program is encouraged to contact
