Faculty Profile

Suzanne Eberle Ph.D.

Art History

Professor, Program Chair

After double majoring as an undergrad in both art history and literature, with a minor in European history, Suzanne Eberle received her PhD in English, with a special focus on the relationships between literature and art history, from the University of Detroit in 1980. Her interdisciplinary background has informed her teaching and scholarship, allowing her to connect art history, literature, cultural history, and film studies. Her areas of art history specialization are Modernism, contemporary art, and aesthetic issues related to the body, including the history of fashion. She has, for many years, trained docents at regional arts institutions, given public lectures, and chaired sessions and presented papers at national and international academic conferences for groups such as the College Art Association, the Costume Society of America, the School of Visual Arts, and the Midwest Art History Society.
