Bruce Mulder M.Ed.

Furniture Design


Professor Bruce E. Mulder earned his undergraduate degree (BA Art Education) in 1970 from Calvin College, and his graduate degree (MEd. Adult and Secondary) in 1992 from Grand Valley State University. While completing his undergraduate studies he entered employment (1966) at Lubberts and Mulder, Inc. Designers of Furniture, starting out detailing and later sketching furniture product for several manufacturers in the Home Furnishings Industry. In 1982 he established his own design consulting practice and continues to the present. In 1979 Mulder was invited to teach in the Furniture Design program at Kendall. He served as Chair of the Design Studies division from 1992 through 2001. He was awarded full professorship and tenure from in 2000. He is a designer member of the American Society of Furniture Designers (ASFD), for which he has served as a Board Member, and currently serves on the jury for the Pinnacle Awards, an annual design competition sponsored by the ASFD for professional designers. Mulder has traveled extensively for the past 45 years.
