Transfer Credit

Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University has the following policies regarding the transfer credit for institutions of higher education.

General College Transfer Policy

1. Only grades of “C” or higher are accepted (“C-“ is not accepted).

2. A 30 semester credit hour residency is required of all B.F.A. and B.S. candidates, normally the last 30 credits.

3. All students must earn at least half of their major core credits at Kendall College of Art and Design.

Liberal Arts and Sciences

The following Kendall Liberal Arts and Sciences requirements are listed with the equivalent transfer courses. All of these courses are in semester hours and equal to three credits:

1. KCHU 120 – Written Rhetoric – English Composition I equivalent.

2. KCHU 121 – Oral Rhetoric – Public Speaking not Interpersonal Communication.

3. Science – Astronomy, Biology, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Physical Science, Physics.

4. Math – Intermediate Algebra or above.

5. Humanities (2) – English, Literature, Foreign Language, Philosophy, Humanities, Communications (not Art History)

6. Social Science – Anthropology, Archaeology, Geography, History, Government, History, Psychology, Sociology.

The remaining three requirements are 300 or 400 level courses (one humanities, one social science, and a required course at Kendall – KCHU 320 – Advanced Rhetoric)

Art History

Transfer students may take the equivalent art history courses for Kendall’s Western Art History I and II but both courses must be taken at either the transfer institution or both at Kendall.

Studio Courses

Transfer of studio credits is subject to a portfolio review by Kendall’s admissions department and faculty. For more information, please contact the admissions office at Kendall.
