NEW! Glass Blowing
Wednesday, May 22, 2013, 6:30-9:30p.m.
Learn to mix color with clear glass using gravity to form a marble. Then you will learn to make a larger object using a four spot welding approach to create a 3-D pyramid, and finally you will make a pendant, earring or figurine by blowing into a tube and shaping a sphere using lots of heat, gravity, and center spinning. Instructor will demonstrate making a wine glass or larger object.

Alla Prima Painting

Alla prima comes from Italian, literally meaning "at once." Instead of building colors up with layers or glazing over an underpainting, alla prima paintings are completed while the paint is still wet. Learn to start and finish a painting (oil or acrylic) in one session, also developing the expressive quality of your work. View examples from the history of art while learning techniques to achieve similar results. Tuition: $49, supplies additional.

Create a bracelet with one of Michigan’s natural resources. You will spend a day learning to manipulate copper through light forging and metalworking techniques. The class will also cover basic finishing and patina processes so each artist walks away with their own unique “wave-style” copper bracelet. Open to all skill levels, including beginners.. Exploring a brief history of shoes, you will gather design ideas and inspiration to create a customized simple sandal for your own feet. Learn how to draft a basic pattern, and prepare a paper “mock-up” to adjust fit and function. Recyclable materials will be discussed as an option for shoe parts and pieces. Bring any shoe parts you want to recycle. Tuition: $39, supplies included.
