Day camps are offered 9:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. A brown-bag lunch from home is suggested. Kendall staff will supervise activities during lunch break. Practice designing online, and then plan a house on your own that you'll build from the ground up! You will draw, paint, and work with blocks, cardboard and clay to create a model of your building design.

Jump aboard our day camp to explore the universe through drawing! You will be inspired by a different artist/instructor each day, teaching you techniques to achieve your own masterpieces. One full-week instructor will provide guidance and leadership from day to day. Topics will include drawing galactic warriors, drawing fashions for video and animation, designing your creative space, drawing the Greek gods, and drawing online.

Explore contemporary urban art through a multi-media practice while learning the history of street art and how it plays a role in public accountability. You will experiment with elements of street art such as stylized writing, sticker making, stenciling, and graphic design. You will learn about a variety of street artists and talk about basic photographic techniques, as you collect images of your own neighborhood and the downtown area. You will be encouraged to use your own life for inspiration as well as your cultural heritage and community to create art that has a meaningful and personal significance.

Travel around Kendall with your camera learning about all the features and functions of your digital camera, possibilities for special effects, controlling lighting, and more. You will download some of your photos to a computer to continue your art making with Adobe Photoshop.

Learn everything you need to sew simple projects by hand and machine. Make something new every day of the camp, including a handbag, simple skirt or pants and stuffed animal.
Warriors of the Wastelands

Discover what makes male and female warriors fierce, awesome, and ba-a-a-d, then blend these features into your drawings. You will also draw machines, weapons, animals, and accessories.
Art of the Arena: Beyblade®

Restyled Fashion

Recycle old garments and found objects such as soda caps or plastic bags into altered couture! Examples include making old jeans into a jacket, or a garment purchased at Goodwill into something new to wear! You will sketch your fashion ideas first and then go to the sewing machine to create them.

Stop Motion Animation

Teamwork helps you communicate your ideas more effectively in art. Building on the story-boarding process: brainstorming, sketching, acting, and discussion, you will create a Play-doh project, which you will film and animate. The animation process includes set design, character design, directing, operating a camera, and editing. You will have an opportunity to use some of the latest software for your final production.
Pre-College Drawing

Think attending art college is in your future? Get a jump on the competition by building a portfolio of drawings based on observation. Focus of the basics of composition and rendering in this day camp which will include studies based on still life and clothed models. Class will also include drawing on location around Grand Rapids.
