What Were You Wearing? Exhibition

Sexual Violence Survivor Art Installation

March 12, 2019 –April 12, 2019
Location: HMK Gallery and Gallery 104
What Were You Wearing Exhibition poster, featuring four photographs of clothing and exhibition description.

This installation provides a tangible response to one of our culture’s most pervasive rape myths: that revealing clothing leads to assault. It was developed out of an advocacy lens by Dr. Mary Wyandt-Hiebert and Ms. Jen Brockman of the University of Kansas. Their work was inspired by Dr. Mary Simmerling’s poem, “What I Was Wearing.”

Outfits featured have been recreated from interviews Ms. Brockman and Dr. Wyandt- Hiebert conducted with student survivors of sexual assault from around the country.

Individuals with disabilities who require special accommodations to participate should contact the KCAD Counseling Office at 616.451.2787 x1136 at least 72 hours in advance.
