IMMER5E Educational Partnership Announced
"IMMER5E" is the first phase of an ongoing educational partnership between the Grand Rapids Public Museum, Grand Rapids Public Schools and Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University. This partnership is part of the strategic direction in each organization as an innovative way to use the museum, enhance school offerings, and develop unique learning opportunities. IMMER5E, year one of a 3-year plan to create a “Museum School,” will be open to 10 fifth grade classes from Grand Rapids Public Schools for school year 2013/2014. The program will be loosely based on the Grand History Lesson, a week-long immersion program at the Grand Rapids Public Museum based on the “Big History Lesson” from the State Museum in Lansing.
IMMER5Ecombines the Grand History Lesson with human-centered design principles and placed-based education to offer compelling 21st century learning opportunities for the youth of our region. This program is generously sponsored by DTE Energy Foundation. Interested GRPS fifth grade teachers are invited to an informational session starting at 4:30 p.m. on May 28 to learn more about the program and how to apply for the next school year. Participants are then welcome to stay for the student presentations from the Grand History Lesson starting at 6:30 p.m.
