News Bites: Painting Alum Showcased in Summer Exhibitions in the Hamptons
Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University (KCAD) alumnus Nicolas Sanchez (’09, Painting) had his work featured in three exhibitions in the Hamptons this summer.
The first, “Water|Bodies” at Southampton Arts Center, ran from June 24 through July 31, 2016. This exhibition, curated by renowned artists Eric Fischl and David Kratz, featured Sanchez’s piece “Clutch,” an installation of 25 small paintings.

From July 7-11, 2016, 13 of Sanchez’s larger paintings were included in “Call of the Wild,” a group exhibition curated by actress Brooke Shields. The exhibition focused on animals as subject matter and was part of the Art Southampton art fair, held at the Nova’s Ark Project sculpture park in Water Mill, N.Y.

At the same time, Sanchez had ten charcoal drawings exhibited at the Market Art+Design Fair at the Bridgehampton Museum through Sugarlift Gallery from July 7 to 10, 2016. Sanchez created the work displayed in this exhibition while he was recovering from surgery.

“For the first time I felt very hesitant and self conscious, but I pushed through it to make all of these works,” says Sanchez. “It means a lot to come out of my surgery recovery and have these works received like this. It’s a huge personal victory for me to have overcome this hurdle.”
These three exhibitions garnered significant attention with features in W Magazine, Hamptons Magazine, and the Wall Street Journal, among others. It’s been quite a busy summer for Sanchez, something that is becoming a common occurrence as his work continues to gain attention on a national and international level. Outside of these exhibitions, Sanchez continues to show his artwork in galleries all over New York and New Jersey.
Keep your eyes peeled for more work from this distinguished alumnus.
